Maple syrup

A few weekends ago I went up to Camp Friedenswald and watched my friends Penny, Cheryl, and Colin make maple syrup. This is the first time that Penny and Cheryl had made it. They tapped trees on camp property, gathered over 120 gallons of sap, and then spend a very long Saturday boiling it down.
The cooking area
Colin dumping two pans together. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of maple syrup.

Penny and Cheryl filtering the sap through a pillowcase (aka maple syrup sap separator) and then into a pot to spend more time cooking on the stove.

It was interesting to see how it all works, and I was rewarded with some of the finished product. I can't wait to try it on some pancakes!
