Be Still my Soul is the first book in the Cadence of Grace series by Joanne Bischof. The book tells the story of Lonnie Sawyer, who is growing up in an abusive household, and Gideon, who she is required to marry after a misunderstanding about their relationship. After they are married they leave Rocky Knob, the only community she has ever known, to hopes of a new future together in the town of Stuart. Gideon has a short temper and is not excited about being married, and his temper gets him in trouble when they have mishaps and frustrations during their travels.
Lonnie wants the marriage to work, but has a hard time trusting Gideon, who keeps making poor choices. Lonnie soon discovers she is pregnant (never explained since they can barely stand each other and haven't even kissed), and they decide to stay for several weeks at the home of Jebediah and Elsie, who teach them about faith, and living and working together. Lonnie and Gideon are eventually able to mend their relationship, but only after the birth of twins, and several crises to work through. This is a unique story about redemption told in a meaningful way.
