Birthday weekend in Indy

To celebrate our birthdays (mine on Saturday), Denise, Susie, and I spent the weekend in Indianapolis. I took Friday afternoon off work and we hit the road. After a three hour trip, we checked into our hotel and then drove to Massachusetts Avenue. We ate supper at Yats, a small cajun creole restaurant that had been recommended to Denise by some friends. I chose the white chili creole and it was good. Denise had the spinach mushroom and it was yummy too. Susie had shrimp something and it wasn't as tasty.

After Yats, we walked back up the street a few blocks to the Global Gifts store we had seen when we drove by. Global Gifts is a part of the Ten Thousand Villages network, so we had a fun time looking around and comparing it to the Goshen store. Then, we walked back to Comedy Sportz, an improv comedy place. We had made reservations, which was a good thing because it ended up being pretty small. It was a fun show, with good clean humor, and we laughed a lot.

On Saturday we slept in, enjoyed breakfast at the hotel, and then went shopping for most of the day. Highlights were finding a Trader Joe's (organic, unique food store), and each of us finding some new clothes at great prices. We also saw another interesting store...

It says "Simply Amish" if you can't read the signs. I thought this was pretty funny since I am from Amish country. They were selling furniture, but it would have been interesting to go in and see how they depict the Amish, or if the salespeople even know what/who they are!

On Saturday evening we walked uptown to Buca di Beppo's, an amazing Italian restaurant. They serve family style, so we each chose a dish and enjoyed eating some of each. There was also plenty to bring home.

Susie's birthday was on Thursday (3/27) so we all enjoyed this HUGE piece of cake for dessert. Susie even had a coupon so we got it for free, which made it taste even better!

We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, right down the road from the RCA Dome, and directly across the street from Lucas Oil Stadium, currently under construction, and the new home of the Indianapolis Colts.

It was a fun weekend!
