Birthday weekend away

Susie, Denise and I have birthdays very close to each other, so each year we try to go somewhere together for a day or weekend away. We decided to go a weekend early this year since our birthday weekend is the same weekend as Bethany Christian's Fun Fest (fundraiser) that Denise is involved in. We originally talked about driving to a house/cabin in the Upper Peninsula that my parents have connections to, but then we realized we needed to be home by Sunday noon (more on that in next post), and it would be a lot of driving for a short amount of time. So we decided to go to Brunk's Cabin in southern Michigan, a cabin owned by GC and mostly used by student groups. It is only a half-hour drive from Goshen. We took off work on Friday and arrived on Friday early afternoon and stayed until Sunday mid-morning.

Friday was an absolutely beautiful day (for March). Sunny and in the 50's. I sat outside and read for awhile, then we all three went for a walk to explore. We got settled in to the cabin, set up some tables and picked out our beds. We brought some movies and Clean Sweeps to watch, but all the walls of the cabin are dark so we had to be creative to find a place to project the picture. I had a stroke of brilliance and decided to use three shower curtains that we "hung" from the rafters by weighting them down with wood.

We hung out, read, and made lots of greeting cards. On Saturday afternoon and evening we drove to South Bend and did a little shopping then went to Olive Garden for supper. Overall, it was a very fun and relaxing weekend with two of my favorite people!

Our appetizer at Olive Garden - lasagna fritta. It was yummy! The outside tasted like the breading on a mozzarella stick, and then there were several cheeses inside.
