The Eiffel Tower yesterday was packed with people. When we got there they weren’t selling tickets to get to the top because it was already so congested up there. The lines were already at least an hour long so we decided to buy tickets to go up the stairs to the first floor instead. Denise and I climbed 328 steps to the first deck, which had a nice walkway all the way around, a restaurant, a gift shop, and some educational exhibits. The view over the city and the river was good – I am sure it would have been more spectacular if we would have gone to the top.
Next we ate lunch along the river, then took a boat tour down the Siene River through the heart of Paris. We saw many sights, including Notre Dame Cathedral, the Lourve, Eiffel Tower, Musee de Orsey (Orsey Museum), and others I don’t remember right now.
It started raining after we got off the boat, so we stood under the Eiffel Tower for awhile until it was only sprinkling, then walked to Point D’Alma, which is the tunnel where Princess Diana was killed. Then we walked up to an area called Madeline which had lots of higher-end food shops and other shops. It was a nice part of town. We walked around for awhile and did some shopping, then caught a train back to our hotel. We are getting pretty good at figuring out the train system.
Today we are heading to the Musee D’Orsey instead of the Lourve. It is a much more manageable size to explore if you only have a few hours and has some nice expressionist paintings. We had planned to also walk to Notre Dame Cathedral but don’t know what we will do that it is raining.
We catch a flight out at 8:00 tonight to go back to England, but need to leave the city about 4:30 to stop back at the hotel to get our bags, take the long train ride back out to the airport, go through security, check in, etc. Better go and let others use the computer.
