Orlando

Denise and I took a quick vacation to Orlando the first weekend of February. We left Saturday noon and came back Tuesday evening. We had an adventure getting to Florida as our flight was delayed about 5 hours in Detroit. Nearly all of this time was spent on the plane, either waiting in line to be de-iced, waiting for further instructions, or just waiting out the snow. I am not sure what all the waiting and delays were for, but I was very thankful that the pilot was concerned about safety, and that the flight was not canceled and we eventually took off. We finally arrived in Orlando about 10:30pm instead of 5:30 as originally planned.

We went to Orlando because my friend Susie was in Florida for a conference, and stayed in the States a few extra days so we could hang out together. She is currently living in Lithuania working at LCC International University.

A recent GC grad who was a close friend of Susie is living in Kissimmee and working at Florida Christian College as Athletic Director. We went to church with him on Sunday, then went out to eat at a local seafood restaurant. We took a tour of Florida Christian (right across the street from the Houston Astros spring training facility!), found the Ten Thousand Villages store in Winter Park, then settled into our hotel room to cruise the internet, play games, and watch the Superbowl. (Side note - while I was watching the Superbowl by cousin called me to tell me he had just gotten engaged - congrats Galen!)

On Monday we explored Downtown Disney (the free part of Disney), then went to a dinner/comedy show downtown. It wasn't as spectacular as the internet said it would be, but it was funny and a decent value (for Orlando).

All too soon our short vacation was over, and we had uneventful flights back to South Bend. Back to the cold and snow.
