New England Vacation

About two weeks ago (June 9-13) I went on vacation to New England with Denise and my friend Susie. We spent most of our time at a resort in Massachusetts, but also went to Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. I had never been to this part of the country - it was beautiful! We had a good time exploring, relaxing, reading, and hanging out. The resort we stayed at had a small kitchen in our room so we did most of our own cooking. The three pools and hot tubs got used several times. The weather was cool and cloudy to start out, but got warmer and sunnier by the end of the week. It rained one night but did not affect any of our plans. The next several posts will show the highlights of our trip.

We made sure to drive through Goshen, Connecticut. We also drove through Goshen, Massachusetts later in the trip. This sign was right beside a restaurant and there was a guy outside willing to take our picture.

Susie and Denise at the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, MA. Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures inside, so any of my pictures of this place don't do it justice. Seeing some of his original pictures made me even more impressed with him as an illustrator. I also read his autobiography during this week so I got somewhat of an "inside view" of his work.

After the museum we went into downtown Stockbridge and walked around in some shops and art studios. We walked through the Red Lion Inn which is locally famous and has been around since 1771. A little too pricey for our wallets, so we didn't eat or stay there.

On the way back from Stockbridge we took the long way back to the resort and drove through New York since none of us had ever been there. We stopped for ice cream at a nice little ice cream stand.

We went to Balance Rock State Park to see this rock balanced on a smaller stone, seeming to defy gravity. It was really cool, but the grafitti was unfortunate.
